Sound is Our Passion
I’m Massimiliano Magri – but you can call me Max.
I’m the CEO of Grandinote, creator of Magnetosolid® Technology and designer of the Mach loudspeakers.
I was born in 1973 and earned my degree in Electronic Engineering in 1997.
But my real story in audio began earlier: in 1996, I built my first amplifier.
It was a tube amp—because, let’s face it, getting a great sound with vacuum tubes is relatively easy.
From the very beginning, I never bought output transformers. I designed and built them myself.
That deep work on transformer design eventually became the foundation for Magnetosolid® Technology.
Our Commitment to Quality
By the end of the ’90s, I was in love with the sound of my tube amplifiers.
But one question kept nagging at me:
Why do tube amps sound richer than solid-state amps?
Knowing the physics of both tube and solid-state devices, I realized the answer wasn’t in the components themselves—it was in the circuits.
In 2000, I began developing what would become Magnetosolid®.
By 2002, my first amplifier using this technology was born—a genuine tube-style circuit, without tubes, running on solid-state devices.
The sound was unlike any solid-state amp I had heard. It deserved a name: Magnetosolid®.
Grandinote stands on a legacy of sound innovation and quality craftsmanship.
Our heritage is a rich tapestry of dedication to high fidelity, connecting life’s moments through unparalleled audio experiences.

What “Magnetosolid®” means
It’s a combination of MAGNETO (for the ferromagnetic output transformers) and SOLID (for solid-state components).
Like classic tube circuits, our schematics naturally require output transformers—but ours are designed for solid-state operation.
The result?
-
The natural richness of tubes
-
Extended frequency response beyond what tubes can offer
-
A much lower output impedance, giving bass control tubes can’t match
Other key design principles:
-
No capacitors between stages (only before the output transistors)
-
Just two output transistors in a simple push–pull configuration
-
No feedback
-
Dedicated power supply for every stage
Tube lovers often believe it’s the tubes themselves that sound better. In truth, it’s the circuit design—and that’s where Magnetosolid® excels.
Crafting Excellence Daily
Our manufacturing process combines traditional techniques with modern technology to create exceptional audio products.
Magnetosolid-VHP
Over the years, I pushed my transformer designs even further, testing exotic magnetic core materials.
These special cores cost a fortune, but the performance is extraordinary:
-
Primary inductance over 10× higher than standard cores
-
Higher damping factor
-
Wider frequency response (both lows and highs)
-
More natural vocal reproduction
The only challenge was cost.
The solution? A dedicated product line—Magnetosolid-VHP—which includes:
-
Shinai & Essenza
-
Prestigio & Divina
-
Silva & Araldo
-
Futura & Demone
Preamps, sources, and more
While the name “Magnetosolid” came from our power amplifiers, the same design philosophy applies to all Grandinote products.
Our preamps, phono stages (Celio), and streamer (Volta) all deliver that same rich, natural sound—solid-state by design, tube-like in musicality.
In recent years, I developed a new input stage, first used in the Genesi preamp, then integrated into:
-
Supremo (integrated amp, based on Essenza)
-
Oltre (power amp, based on Divina)
Each step takes us closer to absolute naturalness.
The Mach loudspeakers
Designing the Mach series was another milestone.
For years, I sought the purity of crossover-less speakers, but all existing full-range drivers had issues—especially harsh, “nasal” high frequencies caused by cone breakup.
Crossovers can tame these problems, but at the cost of musicality.
Our solution was a mechanical crossover—a special treatment applied behind the driver membranes. This eliminates breakup without losing musical energy.
The process also changes driver parameters, lowering Fs and raising Qts—ideal for our custom cabinet design: the Semi Resonance Tube (S.R.T.).
This is not a traditional bass reflex or a full transmission line—it’s something in between.
The result: deep, tight, and fast bass unlike anything I’ve heard before.
Grandinote today
Today, Grandinote products are enjoyed in 26 countries worldwide.
Most importantly, customers who experience our sound never switch brands.
That, to me, is the greatest compliment.
